Michael Hamilton (Barberton, OH) discovered contra dancing while in college and immediately fell in love with the community and tradition that imbued his local dance. He soon began traveling to regional dances, making friends throughout the mid western United States. It didn't take long for him to begin writing and calling dances in his hometown dance community in northeastern Ohio. He now calls contras for local dances and regional dance weekends throughout Ohio and further afield (including PA, NY, KY, WI, IL, and GA). Furthermore, Michael actively aids the expansion of the greater dance community by calling for dances targeting younger audiences at college communities such as Oberlin College, Case Western Reserve University, and Denison University. In his free time, he has begun to explore the roots of traditional music by playing old time style banjo and guitar. Michael enjoys sharing the joy of the dance floor by calling, dancing, and playing and is excited to bring his talents to serve with the CDSS board and support the communities that have brought such joy and fulfillment to his life.
