Martha Edwards (Creve Coeur, MO) is a dancer, fiddler, caller, web designer and dance organizer. She and her husband Bob Green started Calling Parties in their home in 2007 for contra and English, and have continued to host them every Wednesday. About a dozen callers developed there, and several excellent dance writers as well. She started an open-calling “Callers Choice” dance, an English country dance, and an American/English dance weekend that brings national level callers and musicians together for a crossover weekend. Her latest project is an “English Jam,” to entice more musicians to play for English.
Martha was a classical violinist in Boston for about 25 years, then became a professional web designer. After working for years in a corporate grey-beige cube, she now works from home coding websites for public libraries and progressive nonprofit organizations, including the Childgrove Country Dancers in St. Louis. She continues to play her violin, but only for dancing – for contra, English, waltzing, morris, and the performance group Dance Discovery.
Martha enjoys the casual good humor and energy of contra and the elegance and sophistication of English, and hopes to continue to bring a bit of each tradition to the other. And a bit of morris wackiness.
