Audio Selections

I have provided eight audio selections [in MP3 format]. Unfortunately I was not able to make recordings of the dances in Helvetia because the callers always called from the floor while dancing.

1. New Creek.

I have provided two selections: one with John Welch calling, the other with Harley Hogbin calling.

2. Dunmore

One selection with both Buck and James Carpenter calling. Buck starts the dance and James continues.

3. Glenville

The two selections I present (Take A Little Peek and Butterfly Whirl) were recorded at Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, WV (May 11, 1978) at a workshop given by caller Mack Samples. Due to the length of the dances (about 10 minutes each), I have only provided the first half of each dance.

4. Morgantown

There are three selections. One is a "patter" call, visiting couple dance (Mow the Wheat) and two are singing calls (Marching Through Georgia) and Rattler).

For those who might be interested, I transfered the recordings from cassette to my iMac computer using a Roland UA-30 USB audio interface and created the RealAudio files with an audio editing and processing program called Peak LE.
