Our Centennial goals are to:
- Raise the visibility of traditional dance, music and song
- Reach and connect people in and outside our community who were not connected before
- Affirm that our participatory arts can change lives
In May 2012, planning teams, consisting of CDSS board, staff and
community members, began developing projects for the CDSS Centennial in
2015. The teams looked at projects focused on strategic partnerships;
community participation; publications; and tours of bands, dance leaders
and song leaders.
Each team met twice a month for an hourly conference call, using a project management process facilitated by Lisa Sieverts. The teams identified the need and stakeholders for suggested project(s), determined selection criteria, evaluated the projects against the criteria, recommended projects to move forward, and discussed timelines and staffing needs for these projects. Through their collective work, they identified the “Raise/Reach/Affirm” goals for the activities and events that will celebrate our history and launch us into the next 100 years.
From planning to doing
In 2013, the CDSS staff will move into Phase 2, creating budgets and
fundraising goals for the recommended projects. These projects will be
announced throughout the year as they are confirmed or need more input
from the community.
As additional projects and activities are proposed by the CDSS community, the staff will evaluate those ideas against the selection criteria.
The first project we’re moving forward in Phase 2 is the Tour — and we are pleased to announce that we have selected our Tour stops. See the Tour section for more information.
We’re excited about the possibilities. After all, you’re only 100 once!
