CDSS Lifetime Contribution Awards
2012 Award Winner
We are pleased to announce that George Fogg, of Boston, MA, is the
recipient of CDSS’s Lifetime Contribution Award for 2012. A teacher of
country dance since 1968, he is an expert at getting beginners out onto the
dance floor, is endlessly enthusiastic about dancing and dancers, and full of
good humor that quickly makes everyone around him smile. A volunteer
extraordinaire, he has put in an astonishing amount of hours organizing,
promoting, archiving, and doing committee work for many dance organizations,
some of which he helped found. His five books (the popular “Neal Book,” co-authored with Rich Jackson; his own
“Country Dances from Colonial New York,” a.k.a. the “Alexander Notebook”;
and three books co-authored with Kate Van Winkle Keller) are invaluable. Details about the presentation celebration will be
announced later. Congratulations, George.

Seeking Future Nominees
Do you know someone who has made a long-term and exceptional contribution to the mission of CDSS? Has this person's contribution benefited more than one geographical area or generation? Has he or she worked in conjunction with CDSS for more than twenty years? If you answered "yes," you may know future recipients of the CDSS Lifetime Contribution Award.
A significant contribution may consist of:
- increasing the quality of what we do by inspiration, instruction or excellent example;
- bringing what we do to new communities;
- expanding the repertoire of country dance, music and/or song, whether through scholarship or by original composition;
- working behind the scenes, enabling others to make any of the contributions listed above (i.e., music or dance event organizing or programming).
Each year the Awards Committee reviews recommendations and submits a short list of nominees to the CDSS Governing Board for its decision in the spring. Nominations for 2012 awards will close on January 31, 2012.
Please send nominations to awards@cdss.org.
