Submitting Articles, Letters, Events, Ads, Etc.

The CDSS News is a quarterly periodical. Articles, letters, poems and photographs about contra, English country and traditional square dance, morris and English sword dance, dance tunes, folksongs, and the dance and music community are welcome. Newly-composed dances and tunes also are welcome, as are new looks at historical dances and tunes. Please contact the editor for guidelines or send submissions to news@cdss.org.

Display ads may be sent as PDFs, JPGs or TIFs (300-600 dpi resolution, with fonts and images imbedded) to the same email; see deadlines and rates below. Personal ads (75 words maximum) are free for CDSS members and $5 for nonmembers.

Special event listings (balls, workshops, weekends, etc.) are published in the paper newsletter; see deadlines below. There is no charge for a simple listing (date, name of event, town/state, sponsoring group, website or phone/email).

Events also are posted on our website and that list is updated more frequently (see Events).

Unless she is on vacation, up to her eyebrows in other work, or has run away from home the editor will get back to you within two weeks.

Here are the deadlines and publication schedule:

SUMMER

DEADLINE: May 1st for July-September issue (is mailed around July 1st)

FALL

DEADLINE: August 1st for October-December issue (is mailed around October 1st)

WINTER

DEADLINE: November 1st for January-March issue (is mailed around January 1st)

SPRING

DEADLINE: February 1st for April-June issue (is mailed around April 1st)

CDSS members (group or individual) may take a 50% discount from the rates above. Anyone placing the same size ad in 3 consecutive issues may take a 10% discount. Please include a note saying which issue(s) your ad is for.

WHAT & HOW SEND

Ads must be black and white (grayscale), and should be sent electronically (PDF, JPG or TIF with 300-600 dpi resolution), with check mailed that day or Visa/Mastercard info mailed, faxed or phoned in. (Online payment will be possible later.)
